Becky Driskill is a phenomenal nurse. She is so caring and compassionate with our patients. I am a nurse practitioner, and, on this unit, we see patients about 1-2 weeks prior to their scheduled surgery. The nurses see the patients first and provide them with pre-op instructions regarding medications to take and hold prior to surgery, and also instructions on diet and bathing prior to surgery. Then they are brought to us (providers) to discuss anesthesia and pre-op testing, such as labs, EKG, and chest x-ray. We also do an assessment of the patient's airway, heart, and lungs.

Becky always gives wonderful instructions and really relates to the patients with compassion and care. On this particular day, we had a patient in her 70's having surgery, and she was seen by Becky first. Becky informed me that this patient got really tearful while talking with her about things that happened in her past. We always ask them about suicide, and this patient told Becky that she did not have any suicidal thoughts currently, but when she was younger, she did.

She opened up to Becky and said she had never really talked about it, but had been molested by her sister's husband/boyfriend. Becky felt so bad for the patient and spent extra time talking with her. By the end of the visit, the patient felt so much better due to talking about her past. She declined any counseling or other help that was provided. I saw the patient next, and then she went to the lab. She was alone but told Becky that her brother was going to pick her up from her pre-surgery appointment. She was the last patient of the day.

Upon leaving the office that day, the patient was then found walking down Rivermont Avenue. I had left work, and Becky called me on the way home. We were talking about weekend plans, and then she said, "There is our patient walking down Rivermont Avenue". Becky passed her and told me she was turning around to pick her up. She did stop, and the patient lived near the hospital. Becky drove her home after picking her up. The patient was so appreciative because her brother had not come.

I feel that Becky did go above and beyond to take this patient home. Becky called me back and said the patient was home safe and sound. This is just one of the things that Becky does as a nurse. I have known her for years and worked with her for more than 20 years as a nurse. She is always so caring and kind and would do anything for anyone. She has a big heart and loves her job as a nurse. She is truly caring, compassionate, and a selfless person. Not only would she do anything for our patients, but she would do anything for her co-workers and friends. She is a co-worker and friend, and I know I could call her anytime, day or night, and she would be there for me.
My heart was full that day after all she did for our patient.
