Erica continued to check in on her long after, especially when my wife began chemotherapy. She didn’t have to do that; most people don’t, but she did, because that’s who she is.
When my wife had her hysterectomy in the summer of 2022, Erica was her nurse. From the very beginning, she stood out not just for her professionalism but for her genuine compassion. I’ve met a lot of nurses over the years, but I have never seen anyone care for a patient the way Erica cared for my wife. She treated her like a person, not a case. She listened, comforted, and made sure my wife's dignity and comfort were always her priority, no matter how busy things got.
What struck me most was that her kindness didn’t end when my wife left the hospital. Erica continued to check in on her long after, especially when my wife began chemotherapy. She didn’t have to do that; most people don’t, but she did, because that’s who she is. She remembered details, asked about her progress, and made my wife feel seen and cared for through one of the hardest times in our lives.
When my wife was readmitted to the hospital before she went into hospice, Erica was there again. She cared for her as if she were family, holding her hand, talking to her gently, and making sure she was never alone or in pain. It meant the world to us. In a time when everything felt uncertain and out of our control, Erica’s presence was a steady light. I will never forget what she did for my wife and for me. Nurses like Erica remind you that compassion can be just as healing as medicine. She made an unbearable time a little more bearable, and that’s something I’ll always be grateful for.
