Abby is the nurse you go to if you need help or a critical thinking buddy. She is someone who will lighten the mood when it's been a tough shift. She laughs through stressful situations that make the staff feel a bit more at ease about the job we do. Abby was on the last day of her long work week, which was especially stressful and tiresome, and was slated to receive a combative, delusional psychiatric patient in police custody, covered with liquid feces. Abby, without missing a beat, took the patient's report, assisted in removing her soiled clothes, and remained patient despite being cussed at and yelled at. She got the patient dressed in clean, dry clothes and settled her into her room. Her selfless efforts made the patient more comfortable and allowed everyone else to care for the patient in a clean environment. This is only one example of the small sliver of caring moments that Abby has always been thinking about the good of the team and the department. This helps make every shift meaningful. Abby is a hard worker and a great resource to others while still being fairly new to nursing. She is very wise beyond her years. We are all proud of her accomplishments over the last year and look forward to every shift working with her. We sincerely recommend Abby for a DAISY Award.
