While she is not providing direct clinical care, she tirelessly supports the behind-the-scenes processes and operations for those on the frontline.
The DAISY award celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Debra is one of those nurses. While she is not providing direct clinical care, she tirelessly supports the behind-the-scenes processes and operations for those on the frontline. Her commitment to detail with data analysis creates the connection we need and drives decision support that enables us to care for patients safely.

Debra has worked for Children’s National as a nursing systems analyst for Kronos since 2002. She participated in the build of the Kronos timekeeping and scheduling system, and as the expert, she has trained countless numbers of staff on how to utilize Kronos, nurse managers and schedulers on how to develop schedules, timekeepers on how to manage time cards, and ensure appropriate pay for staff. She has assisted in making sure there are processes in place through scheduling so nurses get the correct paychecks. She is currently providing expert consultation on the build of our new UKG timekeeping and scheduling platform for departments across the system.

In addition to this, Debra takes ownership of the successes of the organization and accepts responsibility for her contribution as a team member. She works tirelessly, adjusting her schedule to be available when needed, behind the scenes, striving to improve profits, productivity, and performance targets through the multiple reports she prepares for nursing leaders to manage and achieve financial goals.

As a member of the SNL Resource and Retention Council, she collaborates to find solutions to problems and shows initiative in developing new ways to improve projects or company performance. One of those projects is the RN floating. Debra played a pivotal role in supporting nurses through the float survey that led to improvements made in float experience that improved nurse experience and quality of care. She recently worked with the council and a member of the Clinical Quality Data Management team to develop a dashboard to support nurse leaders in understanding the float experience for their units.

Debra is a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. Her compassion, commitment, connection, and care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model.
