After being with my mother's caregivers for the past 4 days, I cannot even compare the level of care that was given by Nicole. If you were to look at a role model of what nursing should look like, Nicole would be it.
Nicole was an outstanding nurse during my mother's stay. She was truly a nurse who stood out among all the other nurses. She was the only nurse who was proactive, calming, organized, familiar with her patients, and knowledgeable about all phases of my mother's plan of care. She was able to make things happen in a timely way by communicating with several different teams.

As a nurse myself, it is always apparent who the standout nurses are. From the minute she walked into my mother's room, she was confident in her care. Nicole was the only nurse who explained each step of her care, such as medications, discharge planning, and med administration. She was so thorough in her physical assessment of my mother. She listened to her heart, lung sounds, and did a complete skin check, and addressed all of my mother's concerns.

She navigated a team of 3 services like a champion to coordinate her discharge in a timely manner. Nicole was proactive with my mother's mechanical skin tear from the IV tape. She called the wound care team to educate us on how to care for my mom's wound at home. After being with my mother's caregivers for the past 4 days, I cannot even compare the level of care that was given by Nicole. If you were to look at a role model of what nursing should look like, Nicole would be it.

Critical thinking is something that has been lacking at times in this Era of nursing care. High acuity nurse-to-patient ratios and nursing burn out has changed the way health care is delivered. Often times short cuts and making do are what our patients are faced with. Nicole made my mother's care seamless and took no shortcuts to deliver it. She was informed, confident, compassionate, and represented Memorial West as a high-performing employee. As a medical professional. I know what our healthcare system strives to deliver to our patients.

Nicole could not have represented Memorial West any better. Strong work, Nicole. I know your job is not easy at all, but the care you gave made it feel like my mother was your only patient. That is not an easy task to accomplish in the inpatient setting. You are truly an asset to your patients, a role model for your coworkers, and the picture of what excellent, compassionate, and patient-centered care is all about.
