It is in her very presence, energy, aura, however you may describe it, she just emanates warmth, kindness, and calm.
My spouse, K, had a same-day surgery in December. K had been extremely nervous about the surgery and had been putting it off for nearly four years. She was trying her hardest to remain calm, but her anxiety was through the roof in the time leading up to the scheduled procedure.

After we were checked in and in the pre/post surgery room, Ann came in and introduced herself, and words cannot describe the immediate calming effect she brought with her. It is in her very presence, energy, aura, however you may describe it, she just emanates warmth, kindness, and calm. K was noticeably put at ease.

Ann was kind, compassionate, and real. She took the time to answer questions, explain what to expect, and all the while making eye contact, checking in on K’s comfort level and needs, and reading the room so she was ahead of the game when the worry or nerves started to increase. She kept conversation with us, and not in a surface-level fake-nice kind of way, but discussing meaningful topics and how those topics impacted all of us.

Post-surgery, I was awed by Ann’s care of K and her tenderness in managing her intense pain. She continually reminded K that she was strong and powerful, but in that moment, she could lean into the pain, and they would do everything in their ability to make her comfortable. Ann was empowering and helped K channel her feminine strength while still acknowledging her pain and need for comfort.

Since the surgery and in the weeks of recovery, K has expressed so much gratitude for Ann and the care she provided, and I have also found myself feeling so thankful for all she did that day. She cared so wonderfully for K, and she also helped put my mind at ease, as I hadn’t realized how incredibly worried I had been until she came into the room and I felt the worry ease. Once I knew my spouse was in such compassionate and capable hands, everything seemed ok. I wish every person experiencing that kind of medical need could have Ann as their nurse.
