These details demonstrated not only clinical knowledge but true empathy.
My family and I would like to nominate this RN in recognition of his extraordinary compassion, patience, and attentive care following my mother’s spinal surgery. From the moment we met him, he treated my mom and our family with genuine kindness and respect. He took the time to thoroughly explain every part of her post-operative care to my dad and me, and he never rushed us, even as I translated everything into our native language so my parents could fully understand. His patience and willingness to ensure clear communication meant so much to us during a very vulnerable and stressful time. He was also excellent about keeping us informed while we waited. He regularly checked in with updates as we were waiting for the doctor and made sure we were not left wondering what was happening next. He also helped update the pharmacy location for my mom’s prescriptions, which eased a lot of stress and ensured there were no delays once we left the hospital.
He went above and beyond by writing down helpful tips and care instructions that the doctor shared, but that were not included in the discharge paperwork. He carefully explained each instruction, checked for understanding, and made sure we felt confident and prepared before leaving, ensuring there were no unanswered questions or lingering concerns. His thoughtfulness showed in even the smallest moments. As we were preparing to leave, he gently removed my mom’s blood pressure cuff and other items and respectfully asked if I would prefer to remove the monitoring wires from her chest myself, which was incredibly considerate. He was also extremely attentive to her comfort, suggesting a cold washcloth instead of an alcohol wipe to avoid stinging her head wounds, and making sure she had a pillow for the long drive home after learning she should not sit upright for more than 20 - 30 minutes. These details demonstrated not only clinical knowledge but true empathy. Our family has experienced care at many hospitals, and his compassion truly stood out. His kindness, attentiveness, and dedication did not go unnoticed, and we are deeply grateful for the care he provided. This RN exemplifies the very spirit of the DAISY Award, and we wanted to take the time to recognize him for the exceptional service he gave to my mother and our family.
