During his time with this patient and her family, Ron’s humanity shone through, making a profound impact in their time of need.
Ron Dulaney demonstrates extraordinary compassion and dedication to patient care. Ron floated to F3 and provided care to a patient and family during one of the most difficult moments of their lives—the passing of their beloved wife and mother.
The family later expressed their heartfelt gratitude in a message to Patient Relations, stating:
"I want to recognize the incredible care and unbelievable humanity Ron Dulaney displayed as my two daughters and me went through the hardest day of our lives, with the passing of my wife. Ron went above and beyond to make that awful day less terrible by facilitating my wife's transfer to a private room so we could say goodbye, staying with us every step of the way beyond the purely medical (which was also excellent) and even coming back to check on us after she passed and he was off duty. Ron knows what he did that day, and it was incredibly important to us. I want the Stanford team to know that Ron is exceptional, and our family appreciates deeply what he did. Please convey our deepest thanks."
Ron’s actions exemplify the core values of our institution—compassion, excellence, and respect. He not only provided outstanding medical care but also offered emotional support and comfort to a grieving family.
Not only was Ron floating to an unfamiliar unit that day, but he spent a significant amount of time advocating for this patient and her family to move to a private room so they could spend her last moments together. When the Charge Nurse couldn't move the patient to a different room on that unit, Ron connected the patient's doctors with the ANS in order to make this move happen. They were able to relocate this patient and her family just in time for them to say their goodbyes and spend their final moments together.
After his shift, he honored the family's wishes not to leave the patient's body alone and sat with her until the incoming shift could take over. His willingness to return after his shift to check on them speaks volumes about his character and commitment to his patients.
