Kathryn, LCN in the NICU, embodies every one of the core values HCMC represents. She is a wonderful, highly experienced NICU nurse and leader on the unit who is committed to exceptional quality patient care, patient safety, being a mentor and role model to other staff, as well as having wonderful communication and leadership skills. She also maintains an attitude of total commitment to the unit/organization and always does her best, going above and beyond to find solutions to problems or to improve patient care. She has an incredible work ethic and inspires others to do their best every day. Her high standard for excellence is demonstrated by her involvement in Nursing Congress as the NICU’s representative, establishing and leading the NICU’s new Bereavement committee, actively involved in our unit’s CUSP team, the hospital-wide Patient Experience and pain/sedation committees, magnet steering council member, as well as being a writer for HCMC's Magnet designation application process. Recently, she showed strong determination, commitment, and collaboration in order to obtain 8 signs/parking spots, which were placed in the parking lot near the main entrance for newly delivered mothers who are coming back to visit their baby in the NICU. She has also demonstrated excellence in practice by leading efforts to enhance NICU practices related to the warmer setup process in L&D, PAR room redesign, and the isolette cleaning process. She looks at every current practice and determines if it is the safest, best evidence-based practice, and forms a team to initiate a change process if necessary.
