As her colleague, I am incredibly proud of Kelsey and the wonderful nurse she has become.
I am nominating Kelsey for a DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary and compassionate care she provided to a very special patient.

This patient was a young man with a terminal illness who was well-acquainted with the ICU team, as he was a vent-dependent ALS patient. He spent over 30 days in the ICU this admission, in addition to multiple prior admissions. Sadly, he faced the inevitable decline of his health when his body failed him, despite his mind remaining completely intact. He ultimately made the difficult decision to transition to hospice care, selecting a specific date and time for this transition while surrounded by his friends and family. Before the first medication was administered, he communicated with Kelsey that he was ready, ending their interaction with a special wink. A powerful final moment that Kelsey will remember throughout her nursing career.

Kelsey provided exceptional care, ensuring that this man could die with dignity and in the most humane way possible. Not only did Kelsey offer outstanding care to the patient, but she also supported his family and friends throughout this challenging time. Despite the difficult circumstances, she remained professional and compassionate.

As her colleague, I am incredibly proud of Kelsey and the wonderful nurse she has become. We are a family in the ICU at Frederick Health, and we are fortunate to have her providing extraordinary care to our patients.
