Her tireless, devoted, and skilled passion for our son’s well-being made a huge impression on us.
I would like to wholeheartedly nominate Rose, RN, for the DAISY Award for the exceptional care she provided for our son during his 50-day stay in the NICU. Our son was born at 29 weeks and had a long road ahead of him, many milestones to achieve, and hurdles to jump. From the moment we met Rose, she also supported our family, explaining the medical situations clearly and patiently, sometimes more than once, until we understood it all. She even ensured we always had everything we needed to stay comfortably at his bedside overnight. Her positive attitude was infectious, and her ability to provide both top-tier medical care and a genuine human connection brought us hope during a dark time. She treated us like family, and we looked forward to seeing her each day. Her tireless, devoted, and skilled passion for our son’s well-being made a huge impression on us. She truly exemplifies what it means to be an extraordinary nurse who is willing and able to go beyond the normal call of duty. Above all, more than her skills, it was her compassion that made the difference. Two young, first-time parents who felt lost found comfort in a mentor who was Rose. She taught us what felt like every single thing we needed to know, from teaching a scared dad what would seem like simple things, such as changing diapers, putting on a onesie, and feeding him, which were huge to him and gave him the confidence in himself to feel comfortable and independent. She sat with me and helped me make a feeding plan for home before being discharged. When I felt so scared about breastfeeding and pumping, she never made me feel discouraged about my production and other things that lacked; she gave me resources, tips, and tricks. She made sure I had all the knowledge needed, and gave me the reassurance, courage, and confidence to know that I could do it, and reminded me always that I was never less of a mother if I decided I couldn’t continue that journey. She truly was our light in a dark part of our story, and we couldn’t think of any other nurse more deserving of the DAISY Award.
