That moment of shared humanity and kindness was so powerful and unexpected; it showed that Lisa’s compassion goes beyond her nursing skills. It’s something you can’t teach in school.
Lisa was nominated by a patient’s family member, as well as by two patients. Here are their stories:
Story #1 – A Patient’s Family Member:
I want to wholeheartedly nominate Nurse Lisa Lupardo for the DAISY Award because the care and compassion she showed my mother during an incredibly difficult time meant more to us than words can express.
My Mom was scheduled for a mastectomy due to breast cancer. It was an overwhelming and scary day for her and for our whole family.
Before the surgery, they needed to put in an IV, which was very difficult because her veins were hard to find. Lisa was patient, gentle, and kind throughout the whole process.
She never rushed, and made sure my Mom felt as comfortable as possible. What stood out to me was how Lisa even spoke to the other nurse who came in to try the IV, asking her to be extra gentle with my Mom. That kind of care and advocacy was so touching.
Lisa’s bedside manner was truly exceptional. She communicated clearly, calmly, and with so much warmth. She kept my Mom informed every step of the way, which helped ease her fears and anxieties.
It was clear Lisa genuinely cared about her as a person, not just as a patient. But the moment that truly touched our hearts was right before my Mom was taken back for surgery, we wanted to pray. When the transport team arrived, Lisa stopped them and said, “Please give them a moment.”
Then she joined us in praying for my Mom. That moment of shared humanity and kindness was so powerful and unexpected; it showed that Lisa’s compassion goes beyond her nursing skills. It’s something you can’t teach in school. After the surgery, my Mom’s first question was, “Will Lisa be my nurse again?” That says everything about the impact she had.
Nurse Lisa Lupardo is an extraordinary nurse: she is patient, caring, gentle, and deeply compassionate. The care she gave my Mom made an unbearable day just a little easier, and for that we will always be grateful. She truly deserves to be recognized for the amazing difference she makes in her patients’ lives.
Story #2 – A Patient:
Lisa, with her 20-plus years of nursing experience, made my first surgery experience so much better than I anticipated. She went above and beyond, making sure I felt at ease and comfortable every step of the way. Her presence lights up the room, and her bedside manner should be studied and taught to new nurses. Confidence and compassion are her strong suits.
I would come back to Englewood Health because of my experience with Lisa.
Story #3 – A Patient:
Lisa helped to make my surgical experience at Englewood Health a real pleasure. She was so helpful and understanding, and also so smart and compassionate.
