A couple of weeks ago, Kaleisha responded to a code blue situation on a post-surgical floor on a patient who was rapidly deteriorating. She acted quickly and skillfully not only once at the initial code, but also when called back to the ICU due to an unexpected downturn of events. This required Kaleisha to use her superior knowledge and experience to take charge and help manage care for this patient, who was extremely critical. If it hadn’t been for Kaleisha and the assistance of Dr. W (also Anesthesia), this patient most likely would not have had the outcome that she did. Kaleisha assisted in getting this critical patient back into the OR and continued to help manage this patient until they were stable and surgical intervention was performed. The dedication to our patients outside of the OR was not required of Kaleisha, but she chose to stay to ensure the survival of this patient. Her clinical expertise and quick thinking make her an extraordinary role model for our department as well as an Atrium Health Employee. I am not surprised by Kaleisha’s actions on that day because she always goes above and beyond for the care of our patients here at AHUC.
