Neither of our mothers could be there, but you were a mother to us, and we will never forget how tender and nurturing you were to us.
Maria exemplifies the DAISY Foundation’s mission to honor nurses who provide extraordinary, compassionate care. Her actions during one of the most heartbreaking situations a family could face demonstrate the true heart of nursing.
One year ago, a couple delivered their 38-week stillborn daughter. As the clinical supervisor nurse that day, I witnessed Maria step forward without hesitation to care for this grieving family. She embraced the assignment with grace and empathy, knowing the depth of pain they were experiencing.
The family recently visited our unit and shared these words:
“Neither of our mothers could be there, but you were a mother to us, and we will never forget how tender and nurturing you were to us. God used you to be a source of comfort, and as we departed the hospital, you helped give us more to be grateful for. Thank you for your love and for being a beautiful part of our story.”
Maria’s compassion shines every day, but this moment truly exemplifies a true DAISY nurse. She didn’t just provide care, she became a part of this family’s story in the most meaningful way. We are so grateful for the love and dedication Maria shows to all her patients, and this experience is a powerful reminder of the difference she makes in people’s lives every day.
