We had an uncommon issue with a patient today from Woodmont nursing home. The patient was supposed to be transported to Cypress Grove nursing home to start hospice care with Heart to Heart Hospice. Woodmont did not arrange for transport, and the family was not comfortable taking him, so Woodmont called 911, and WEMS picked him up. As a 911 call, WEMS was only allowed to take him to a hospital, so he was brought here. As soon as I was informed of the situation, I began to try to arrange transport. I spoke with Jen, and she said they could do it. She even took care of calling dispatch while I spoke with Cypress Grove and Heart to Heart to make sure everything was still a go. The patient was out of here in less than an hour. There were about 10 family members here. We allowed them to say goodbye while the patient was on their stretcher, and Jen confirmed DNR, as the patient was somewhat actively passing. The patient made it there, where he could pass peacefully with the family at bedside, thanks to Jen.
