I do think that if I were ever in another emergency postpartum situation, I would want no other nurse but Amanda.
Amanda is a very strong and powerful nurse; she took care of my wife, B, immediately postpartum (delivery was at 1859). Amanda works on the night shift and walked into her postpartum hemorrhage and did not sit down to eat or take any kind of break until 0530 (10 1/2 hours into her shift). In all honesty, Amanda came off initially with a strong demeanor and could be considered curt, but in hindsight, I realize that she was operating in an intense situation that was, by all means, an emergency. She moves swiftly and with purpose and makes sure that B and I are aware of everything at all times.

She accompanied B to the operating room when she needed a procedure to control the bleeding. Amanda was in touch with the OB/GYN and anesthesia teams to make sure that everything was taken care of and everyone was appropriately updated on B's bleeding status. We both come from emergency medicine and critical care backgrounds, and noticed that she was a pivotal part of saving B's life and keeping the situation from getting out of control. Even when I fell asleep while they were in the operating room, once they returned, she came back, and the baby was crying, and she offered to take care of the baby, even though she was primarily taking care of my wife. I do think that her experience and expertise made all the difference in the world and kept this situation calm and under control. She made B and me ultimately feel comforted with continued updates and explanations of the upcoming steps. I do think that if I were ever in another emergency postpartum situation, I would want no other nurse but Amanda. She, by all means, made a difference that day in our experience and ultimately saved my wife's life. I can't thank her enough.
