She is an inspiring role model to the student midwives she teaches and is everything a midwife should be: skilled, compassionate, and wholeheartedly committed to excellence.
I would like to recognize Estefi for her exceptional, compassionate, and truly patient-centered care.
Estefi was my community midwife from my booking appointment until my baby was four weeks old, and throughout my pregnancy, she consistently went above and beyond her role, making a profound and lasting impact on my well-being.
Having previously experienced a traumatic pregnancy, a six-week hospital stay due to placenta praevia, and postnatal depression with my first baby, I began this pregnancy feeling extremely anxious.
From the very beginning, Estefi took the time to truly know and understand me; she validated my feelings, and despite caring for many other mothers, she always made me feel as though my baby and I were her only patients.
She embodied the Trust's values by putting the patient first in every interaction and advocating for the support I needed. Estefi arranged a birth debrief to help me manage anxiety linked to my previous experience and proactively coordinated support to reduce the risk of postnatal depression.
She referred me to Acacia, who became a lifeline after my daughter was born. Throughout a pregnancy filled with multiple appointments due to my daughter's restricted growth, Estefi checked in after each one to see how they had gone, offering reassurance whenever I needed it.
When my daughter was admitted to NICU, and we spent a week in hospital, Estefi even visited us on the ward, bringing comfort and a familiar face during a very difficult time. What also made Estefi so special was the way she connected not only with me, but with my baby.
She spoke to her, laughed with me when she wriggled during monitoring, and made me feel as though she was seen and cared for before she was even born. When we were finally home, Estefi continued to support us, checking my daughter's weight and giving me a safe space to talk when motherhood felt overwhelming. Her encouragement empowered me, celebrating each bit of progress and reminding me that I was doing an incredible job.
I will never forget her words, "This is because of you, you should be really proud."
Those words kept me going!
Although my pregnancy was complex and stressful, Estefi helped me experience it in a positive way, and I will be forever grateful.
