Thanks to Angie's persistence and compassion, the patient’s oldest son was able to connect with his father and share meaningful moments during this difficult time.
Angie was assigned to the Neuro Unit at Forsyth Medical Center, where she cared for a patient who had suffered a massive stroke, resulting in significant impairments. Angie noticed the patient had no family present and soon learned that he was in the country alone, with his family living overseas.

During her medication pass, she thoughtfully searched for music from the patient’s native country and era, the time of his younger years, and played it for him. The patient visibly reacted, tracking her movements around the room, showing signs of recognition and comfort.

Determined to help the patient connect with his family despite the distance, Angie took the initiative to download an app that would allow video communication between the patient and his loved ones overseas.

Thanks to Angie's persistence and compassion, the patient’s oldest son was able to connect with his father and share meaningful moments during this difficult time.
Although Angie was a float nurse and would not be assigned to this patient again, she remained deeply involved. When the patient’s son reached out to her on her day off for an update, Angie immediately stopped what she was doing, even while at the dentist’s office, and ensured a leader was contacted so someone could assist at the bedside to keep the connection going.

Angie's extraordinary compassion, dedication, and kindness went far beyond her nursing duties. She brought comfort not only to her patient but also to a family separated by distance. Angie truly exemplifies the spirit of nursing by honoring the dignity, humanity, and connection so essential in moments of profound vulnerability.
