. I have nothing but good things to say about the care I received at CCH, but Nurse Katie is a standout.
I am a 70-year-old former US Marine and a retired professional tractor-trailer driver of 43 years. That said, I had what was identified as a mini stroke. I came to Chester County Hospital in an ambulance. Everyone I came in contact with in your ER was great! Very professional and kind. It was such a contrast to the rushed, impersonal experience that comes to mind when faced with a trip to the Emergency Room.
After the initial assessment in the ER, I was moved to the Clinical Decision Unit, West Wing One. Tuesday, I was on the move all day, having tests to determine which procedure I would ultimately need. I had two nurses, Katie and Romi, and they both took excellent care of me. Honestly, everyone I encountered during my stay was fantastic!
On Wednesday, I met with several doctors and my surgeon. He said I would have surgery by the end of the week. Later that afternoon, I was sitting alone in my room, feeling overwhelmed and honestly scared. My grandfather and two of my uncles died as a result of strokes. I have always done everything I could to prevent this: diet, exercise, no smoking, and minimal drinking. But there I was. Family history had caught up to me.
I began to get emotional, and believe me, I have never been an emotional man. I heard a kind voice at my door, and when I looked up, Nurse Katie was there. She asked if I was ok. I apologized for being so upset, but I could not stop. I told her that I was scared and embarrassed being like that. She didn’t make a big deal out of it or do the over-the-top consoling thing. She just said, “Let’s take a walk.” That gesture was exactly what I needed to get me up and out of my own head for a bit.
Over the next few days, Nurse Katie made sure to check in on me, and each time, she was upbeat and helpful. She was professional and knowledgeable, but always kind and comforting. I have nothing but good things to say about the care I received at CCH, but Nurse Katie is a standout. You are very lucky to have this wonderful person on your staff.
