I came into labor and delivery on the edge of death. I was in DKA. I didn't know my blood sugar was 704. I was 34 weeks pregnant, just found out I had to change my whole life around.

I was coming up on my custody trial for my daughter. I was falling apart, and I couldn't find any light. I was full of shame and guilt. Carla took the time and effort to connect with me. I am usually terrified of hospitals! I was a drug addict for a long time, but I've been sober for over 3 years. Carla took my hand, looked m in the eyes and opened her heart to me. I felt safe. I felt love, and I felt light.

She was my ESN, emotional support nurse. The next day, I had a trial for custody of my daughter. Carla prayed with me, told me I was worthy and redeemed, and took off her "Juju" bracelet for me to wear. She checked on me every hour, giving me pep talks, tissues, and love. She sat with me for hours to find my stubborn son. She loved me until I could find the love for myself. 

I thank God for my emotional support nurse and strongly believe angels are real because Carla M is my son and I's.
