Something just different enough that caused her alarm bells to go off.
Chantelle was managing an extremely sick, premature baby that had multiple concerns with almost every body system. One night while managing this baby, she noticed that the baby's belly was different looking, slightly more distended, a little different in coloration--not hugely different that the day team would have noticed, but something just different enough that caused her alarm bells to go off. So she alerted us as the night team to evaluate, and pushed for us to get an X-ray, which revealed a huge pocket of air in the baby's belly. This allowed surgery to promptly come and perform a bedside procedure to get the air out, a procedure that likely saved this baby's life. Chantelle deserves this award for her diligence, calm demeanor, and ability to recognize when to escalate care.
