La’jimes took it upon herself to create a holiday experience for him right in his room, setting up a mini holiday party and playing cheerful music and singing holiday songs.
A patient admitted to PCU was going to be there a while, and with the Christmas holidays approaching, was feeling sad and isolated. La’jimes didn’t want him to feel forgotten or alone, so the very next day she came to work wearing her holiday PCU spirit wear and, most importantly, she brought the spirit of the holidays with her. She brought in garland and placed it around his whiteboard, along with small festive decorations. La’jimes took it upon herself to create a holiday experience for him right in his room, setting up a mini holiday party and playing cheerful music and singing holiday songs. What stood out the most to me wasn’t just the decorations or the singing; it was the genuine care La’jimes showed this patient by listening to him, lifting his spirits, and making sure he felt seen and cared for while he was stuck in the hospital over the holidays. That afternoon, his wife stopped me to say, ‘thank you’ and asked where the decorations came from. She was so touched by La’jime’s thoughtfulness. What I’ve noticed about La’jimes is that she doesn’t just show up to work; she shows up for her patients every single day. She creates an environment where patients feel respected and supported. She is a true example of what it means to go above and beyond in nursing.
