She was compassionate and kind, with never-ending patience for her patient and me.
Thank you for the opportunity to nominate Yasmi Bradley for the DAISY award. I am a retired nurse and am very familiar with this coveted award. My beloved husband of 30 years was transferred to the ICU after a cardiac arrest. He was in critical condition and not responsive. All night, I sat by his bedside watching his monitor and praying he would respond. Yasmi is an experienced ICU nurse who kept in communication with me all night. Yasmi kept me updated regardless of whether the news was good or bad. Even though she knew I was an RN, she recognized that I was not there in that capacity, but as a very scared and nervous wife. All night, she explained everything about my husband’s care. She spoke to me and spoke to my husband, even though he was completely unresponsive. I realize this may sound like what every ICU nurse does, but my experience has shown me otherwise. She was compassionate and kind, with never-ending patience for her patient and me. Yasmi never took a break all night. My husband was very unstable, and she stayed with him. Yasmi should have left in the morning after her night shift was over, but she stayed with me and cried with me as we watched my husband die. She brought me a blanket with an angel pin on it to take home. I think that every nurse’s fear is to see their loved one in critical condition in an ICU bed. Even years of experience could not prepare me for that moment. I was now on the other side of nursing care, and this is when you pray that the person caring for your loved one is smart, kind, and patient. Yasmi far exceeded my expectations. She touched my soul and impressed my family. I felt she cared for my husband and me. This DAISY Award would be my way of thanking her and letting her know how important she is to the nursing field. My family and I are eternally grateful.
