I would like to recognize Meryl Stevens Mills, my Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) at Warneford Hospital, for her outstanding dedication, compassion, and support.

I have been living with severe bipolar disorder since I was 14 years old. Meryl has been my CPN since 2018 and has been nothing short of a lifeline to my family and me. During some of the darkest moments of my life when I was suicidal, deeply depressed, and struggling to cope, Meryl was there for me without fail. Her support kept me safe and helped me to stay out of hospital so I could remain at home with my children and husband.

Even during times when I’ve had to be admitted to hospital, Meryl has shown incredible compassion and care. She never stopped advocating for my recovery and worked tirelessly to ensure I received the right support to regain my strength. Her goal has always been to help bring me back to my family, and she has played a vital role in helping me return home in the best possible health.

Meryl is not only a dedicated professional but also someone I have come to trust deeply. I can share everything with her without fear of judgment. Her calm, understanding, and kind approach has helped me open up and feel heard, something that has been incredibly healing. She always encourages me to find joy in my life, no matter how hard things get. She helps me see hope and strength when I feel like I have none.

To me, Meryl has not just been a healthcare professional; she has been one of my best friends during my most vulnerable times. Her consistent support has made a real and lasting difference in my life. She truly deserves this recognition for her dedication to mental health care and the profound impact she has on her patients.
