My dad needed a valve repair and was transferred here from another hospital. He had a stroke, which greatly impaired his cognition and processing abilities, totally derailing his upcoming valve repair surgery. When I arrived, there was clearly a change in my dad that was shocking, and Ahmed came to his room to let me know what had happened. He notified the Hospitalist and asked him to come speak with me and develop a plan. Ahmed intuitively knew what I needed to grasp the brevity of what we were facing. He guided me out of the room to ask the pressing questions in my head. He is direct, caring, compassionate, and showed great concern for me and the situation. He recognized the connection between my dad and me and took great pains to ensure his comfort, and helped calm him as he was struggling with his inability to communicate.
