Melissa is extremely compassionate when caring for my son, to the point of me requesting her for her next shift. She adapted her care to better suit my non-hearing 8-month-old. She advocates for his needs and supports my decisions when speaking to the care team. She is a bright light in a very traumatic situation for this mama. I am beyond grateful that our paths have crossed. I could go on and on, but the short story is, more nurses need to be like Melissa.

The second nomination highlighted Melissa's dedication to another family's son, Francesco. The parent wrote:

She went above and beyond for our son. We highly respect and love Melissa like family. She is an incredible human being and an amazing nurse for children. Melissa is very patient and loving of our baby boy. Our son has had a long journey since birth, and this nurse, out of the four hospitals we have been to, is exceptional. She truly cares for the well-being of her patients and loves each one of them.
