Bonnie exemplifies what it means to be a truly compassionate nurse. Her attention to detail and unwavering commitment to providing the best care are evident every single day.
I had the privilege of observing Bonnie in her element while caring for a 16-year-old patient with special needs who required a procedure under anesthesia. The day began with significant challenges. Due to her diagnosis of Aicardi syndrome since birth, the patient refused to enter the facility beyond the entrance. Bonnie, alongside a coworker, collaborated with the anesthesia team to administer oral medication to help the patient relax and feel at ease. Through patience and teamwork, the coworker was eventually able to escort the patient and her mother into the department.
Once inside the department, Bonnie made it her mission to connect with and comfort this patient. With the physician, anesthesia team, and mother all in agreement, the care plan was tailored to be as minimally invasive as possible. Bonnie stayed with the patient one-on-one, treating her with the utmost respect and kindness throughout the process.
While rounding on the mother during the procedure, I checked on her well-being, knowing how stressful this experience could be. She shared something remarkable: “In the 16 years of caring for my daughter and being in many hospitals and medical facilities, this was by far the best experience we have ever had.” She praised Bonnie for her authenticity and gentleness with her daughter. I provided the mother with a DAISY nomination form and encouraged her to nominate Bonnie, as she has never received this recognition before. Bonnie demonstrates this same level of compassion and dedication with every patient, every day.

I have a daughter with special needs and was unsure about taking her anywhere other than Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. When I spoke with Bonnie about preparing for the procedure, she went above and beyond to make the experience as pleasant as possible. She arranged to get us in early so we could have additional time to get my daughter the extra care and attention she needed. She was thorough in making sure everyone on the team was informed and prepared for the procedure. She also supported me (mom) and stepped in and sat with my daughter before the procedure, and was able to keep her calm and comfortable. Thank you so much to Bonnie and her team for your patience and kindness. You are appreciated greatly!
