I am a nurse practitioner from the hospitalist team who responded with the attending provider to a rapid response called overhead for a patient with cancer experiencing shortness of breath. This patient was having nausea throughout the night, which Avery was managing. The patient then started to decline after an episode of vomiting in which her vitals subsequently became unstable. Avery's quick response to place the patient on oxygen supplementation and call for help through a rapid response helped ensure that the patient received the care needed. She advocated for her patient, was knowledgeable regarding her history, and most of all seemed to make a meaningful connection with the family member who was present at the bedside. She was reassuring to the family member and patient throughout the rapid response. The family member truly seemed grateful for Avery's care and attention throughout the night.
