When you think about the intention and purpose of the DAISY nurse leader award, Kara Howery definitely comes to mind. Through her years of service with the Retention and Recruitment Committee, the DAISY selection committee, and now taking the reins of the very successful C.A.R.E. program, Kara has mentored, shaped, and formed nurses from across the organization for over 10 years.

Her commitment to excellence and quality, ensuring nurses have the tools they need to do their work, and rolling up her sleeve and working alongside her staff to drive best practice, speaks to her character. She is fierce not only about providing safe, quality patient care and elevating the nursing profession but also about showing us how to put on a great party and theme. I am happy to call Kara not only a colleague but a friend. Cheers to you, Kara, for all that you do for Eskenazi Health and nursing!

Because Kara and I co-coordinate the DAISY program for Eskenazi, I submitted this nomination as ‘anonymous’ as I knew she would see this. I would like the opportunity now to add how much I value her leadership, collaboration, and friendship with the DAISY Nurse Program. Through this program, Kara is beyond dedicated to our bedside nurses and nurse leaders. She is always considering opportunities to elevate and recognize the unique and wonderful things they do every day.
