Kristin’s presence was a source of comfort and strength during a very vulnerable time.
Kristin Eggert provided extraordinary compassion and care she provided to my uncle during his hospitalization on Oncology 5. My uncle is battling stage 4 esophageal cancer and had been suffering from intractable nausea, vomiting, and failure to thrive. His admission was a difficult time for our family, filled with uncertainty and emotional strain.

From the moment I arrived to visit him, Kristin demonstrated a level of empathy and professionalism that immediately put me at ease. She noticed my anxiety and took the time to pull me aside, look me in the eyes, and assure me that she was going to take care of him. She told me she was scheduled to work the next four days and would continue to be his nurse if he remained on the unit. That moment of connection and reassurance meant so much.

As someone who works in healthcare, I know how hard it can be to balance being a family member and a clinician. Kristin struck the perfect balance. She took control when needed but also allowed me to be involved without ever making me feel like I was overstepping. She shared every plan, including me in interdisciplinary team meetings, and welcomed my input in decisions regarding my uncle’s care.

Kristin’s presence was a source of comfort and strength during a very vulnerable time. Her clinical skill, emotional intelligence, and genuine kindness exemplify what it means to be a nurse. She didn’t just care for my uncle; she cared for our whole family. Kristin treated him not just as a patient, but as a whole person, someone facing the immense physical and emotional challenges of a terminal diagnosis while trying to remain strong for his family.

She honored his autonomy, supported his decisions, and consistently showed deep respect for his dignity. He spoke so highly of her, often sharing how much he appreciated her thoughtful suggestions and the way she never imposed anything on him. With the provider’s support, Kristin tailored his care to meet his needs, allowing flexibility with medications, lab draws, and other interventions so he could finally get some much-needed rest. What stood out most was the deeply personal care Kristin consistently provided.

From the moment he arrived, she went above and beyond, and yet it was clear this wasn’t an exception. This is simply who Kristin is. She doesn’t see patients as room numbers or diagnoses, but as human beings with stories, families, and struggles. She meets them where they are and does everything in her power to ease their journey. Being on the other side as a family member was a powerful reminder of what our patients and their loved ones experience, and the kind of care they deserve. Kristin exemplifies that standard. She is the kind of nurse who makes a lasting impact. My family and I are forever grateful for her compassion, her skill, and her heart.
