Renee's commitment to excellence, her compassion for others, and her leadership by example make her an invaluable part of our team.
Renee exemplifies what it means to be a true nurse leader. As both a charge nurse and a preceptor in the GI Procedures unit, she consistently demonstrates compassion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to her patients and team. From the moment she began training me in the charge nurse role, Renee went above and beyond to ensure I felt confident and supported. Her patience, encouragement, and ability to teach with clarity transformed my confidence and helped shape me into the charge nurse I am today.
Renee is a strong advocate for both her patients and her colleagues. She always steps up to ensure patients receive safe and compassionate care, especially during challenging situations. Her previous experience in the Emergency Department gives her a unique edge in handling high-stress or emergent cases with calm precision and confidence, creating a reassuring environment for everyone around her.
Beyond her clinical skill, Renee demonstrates true initiative and leadership. After a discussion in a unit practice council meeting, she took responsibility to create a clear and thoughtful list of staff expectations—helping to strengthen teamwork, accountability, and consistency within our unit. She is also our go-to expert for Anesthesia scheduling criteria, always monitoring for issues and proactively finding solutions to improve efficiency and patient flow.
I have only been at the VA for 2 years, but I know her influence and impact range far before that time. Renee's commitment to excellence, her compassion for others, and her leadership by example make her an invaluable part of our team. She continuously motivates those around her to strive for better outcomes, embodying the spirit of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award in every way.
