As a nurse, I will also definitely learn from Benjamin to provide compassionate care to my patients when I return to work.
I would like to nominate Benjamin Pfeffer for a DAISY Award for his work ethic, dedication, and compassion. Ben took care of me from the time my water broke to my delivery. He stayed in the room with me during the entire 4 hours I pushed, only taking one quick break in between. He was reassuring the entire time, encouraging me to keep going and assuring me that I am doing great.
When I was feeling defeated and crying, he lowered himself to speak to me on my level and consoled me with such compassion that I have never seen from any other nurse, and I am speaking as a patient and a nurse myself. When lots of staff rushed into my room, I was overwhelmed and scared. Ben took the time to calm me down and explained that every person was needed in the room at the time to help me. He was also able to keep my high-anxiety, low-medical-knowledge husband at ease, which is very difficult from personal experience.
Ben was able to keep calm after my delivery when I was fainting. He quickly jumped into action and prevented the potential syncope episode. I am forever grateful for Ben to be there for me that day, and if every nurse is just like Ben, I’m sure hospital stays will be less daunting for everyone. As a nurse, I will also definitely learn from Benjamin to provide compassionate care to my patients when I return to work.
