What makes Sheila truly extraordinary is the lasting impact she has on everyone around her. She has been my mentor, confidant, and friend- encouraging and supporting me throughout my career and personal growth.
When I came to the U.S. in 2006, I left behind my work as a perioperative nurse in the Philippines. To restart my career, I worked in dialysis for a year before finding my way back to the OR.
Transitioning into the CVOR was one of the most difficult challenges of my career; the environment was demanding, and I often felt the weight of being the “new” nurse again. During that time, Sheila Aiello became the nurse who reminded me what this profession is truly about. She welcomed me with patience, guided me with her knowledge, and showed me how compassion and skill together define the very best in nursing.
Sheila is a constant source of comfort not only to her patients but also to their families and colleagues. She treats every patient as if they were her own loved one, listening with empathy, advocating tirelessly, and ensuring they feel safe, respected, and cared for. She has a calm, reassuring presence that brings peace during moments of fear and uncertainty. Sheila’s clinical expertise is unmatched.
She is thorough, precise, and conscientious in every aspect of care- whether it is verifying orders and consents, preparing patients for complex heart surgeries, ensuring the highest standards of safety in the operating room, or endorsing patients seamlessly to the ICU. She takes the extra time to ensure every detail of care is complete, double-checks what others might overlook, and maintains the highest level of professionalism. Her skill, combined with her unwavering dedication, brings confidence to her coworkers and the best possible outcomes for her patients.
