Because of her experience and going the extra mile to lead me into these positions, I started progressing in my dilation.
I was in labor at CRH after being medically induced, and my dilation had stalled in progressing. I already had an epidural put in, so I was limited in movement. My OB said that if I didn't make progress in the next few hours, I would need to have a C-section. Just then, the nurse shift change happened, and Holly took over as my nurse. She started me on a circuit of different positions I could do on the bed with a peanut ball. I held each position for about 30 minutes. She would then put me in the next position. She was very kind and talked me through each step and asked for my preference to make sure I was as comfortable as I could be, given the circumstances. Because of her experience and going the extra mile to lead me into these positions, I started progressing in my dilation. I was ecstatic not to have a C-section. Over the next 12 hours, Holly was with me every step of the way through labor. I communicated any concerns and feelings I had, and she was so quick to react. She was quick, calm, and very reassuring. I was very happy that she was the nurse we had during the hardest part of labor. My baby was born at the end of her shift that day. I truly think that without her help and extra attention, I would have ended up having a C-section after 24+ hours of labor. Even our OB was surprised I was able to deliver vaginally. Luckily, she was our nurse the next day postpartum. She ensured we were well-informed with additional pamphlets on the questions we had. She taught us how to swaddle our baby, change her diaper, and got us a feeding log to track feeds and diapers when she noticed I was using the notes app on my phone. If I have another baby at CRH, I hope to have her as a nurse again!
