Chelsea was hands down the best preceptor I could have ever had. Every step along the way, she did everything in her power to build my confidence and knowledge so I could emerge from this experience already feeling like a successful nurse. Even in little ways, she never let me lose sight of what I was working towards. When introducing me to patients, she never called me a student nurse. I was always introduced as their “nurse.” Chelsea would never let past failures hold me back. In fact, she would argue that I did not fail, but that I was failed. Although that distinction is small, it was that kind of mental framework that prevented my own insecurities from dragging me down. I cannot help but become overwhelmed by emotion each time I think about concluding this opportunity to work with Chelsea. I have never received such individualized support from my past learning experiences. I truly hope more students get the chance to receive the respect and care she offered to me. I will forever be grateful for everything Chelsea did for me. I will carry her lessons with me and become a better nurse for it.
