Her cheerful and sometimes funny comments are already lifting my mood.
I am a 72-year-old female with a myriad of health issues, including neuropathy, multiple myeloma, and metastatic breast cancer that has spread to my liver. When Lola first greets me in the waiting room with my chariot wheelchair, as she calls it, she takes me to the prep room. Her cheerful and sometimes funny comments are already lifting my mood. She assists me with changing my clothes and shoes. Lola takes my vitals, inserts an IV, and, once a month, has to draw blood. When she manages to find a vein that is suitable to insert the IV, she is very gentle and engages me in conversation, which helps take my mind off what's happening. This helps make the punctures less painful.
Also, I am always cold in the hospital and love being wrapped in the warm blankets that are available. Lola appears with two of them without my asking and takes the time to make sure I'm bundled up and comfortable. "My Angel Lola," as I call her, is a kind and thoughtful person and always makes me feel that my well-being is very important to her. Because of her devotion to her chosen profession. I am sure she faces challenges beyond my imagination. However, during the times I have spent with her, she has always been positive, uplifting, compassionate, and caring. I thank God for her.
