Kiersten’s compassion, patience, and ability to make this patient feel seen and safe during a frightening time clearly made an impact – not only on the care, but also on the willingness to return to a place where the patient knew they would be supported.
Kiersten was working in the emergency department when a patient arrived. When you hear people say, “You see people on the worst day of their lives,” this was truly one of those moments. After checking the patient in for medical screening. Kiersten informed the patient and their family member of what to expect. She connected the family with resources and facilitated the next steps in the care.
A few days later, the patient required assistance, and a call was placed to the Baptist ED for the patient to return to see the same nurse, Kiersten, who had cared for the patient previously. Kiersten’s compassion, patience, and ability to make this patient feel seen and safe during a frightening time clearly made an impact – not only on the care, but also on the willingness to return to a place where the patient knew they would be supported. Because of Kiersten, this patient didn’t just return to a hospital, but returned to someone they trusted.

My young family member needed emergency treatment. Kiersten felt like a warm hug. When my family member was in pain, they specifically asked to go back and see the "nice lady at "da Baptist."
We love you, Kiersten. Mother to mother, survivor to survivor, you are amazing, and we won't forget you. You have made this terrible situation a little lighter. Thank you for going above and beyond for my family member. You are a blessing. I will continue to pray for you and for the future patients that will have the pleasure of having you as their nurse. You deserve every bit of anything good that comes your way.
