She said, “I just want to be the best nurse I can be.” And she was!
Wracked by a kidney stone attack, followed by two kidney stone surgeries, followed by a UTI that was so bad it could only be cured by IV antibiotics, I arrived at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital needing real care. That is what I received from Sherry Moore.

I would like to organize my thoughts around the 4 C’s: Caring, Competency, Courteousness, and Continued desire for excellence. Sherry was exemplary in delivering in all four of these areas.

Caring:
In a world where medical professionals are often so pushed with many responsibilities, Sherry still made me, as a patient, feel like I was important and cared for. She took the time to ask questions and find out what I needed. She made me feel like I was a person — not simply a patient. She took the time to write on the board on the wall, describing something of who I was. She had cared to listen, and she heard.

Competent:
Sherry made sure every detail was attended to. She was responsive whenever there was a particular need, and she made sure everything was taken care of by checking on my circumstances. She made me feel relaxed, secure, and confident that all was being taken care of, no doubt helping in the healing process. She checked on the progress of my condition and treatment and conveyed information to me in a helpful and timely manner.

Courteous:
Sherry was always kind and helpful in her communication with me. She never made me feel like a bother. I also watched her help with my roommate and others on the floor with the same empathetic and cheery disposition.

Continuing Desire for Excellence:
Sherry had many responsibilities while I was there. I knew it was enough to make anyone grow frustrated, and perhaps evidence that to her patients. Despite the myriad pulls on her professional service, she always showed patience and persistence. She said, “I just want to be the best nurse I can be.” And she was!

I am home now and look back on my experience at WellSpan Good Samaritan with gratitude and thankfulness for their service to me. Many nurses and medical professionals did exemplary jobs for which I am grateful. But I believe nurse Sherry Moore is particularly deserving of the DAISY Award.
