Lisa jumped into the following week with excitement, eagerness, and a can-do attitude.
Lisa is truly a ray of sunshine in our department. We recently took on a new procedure, and our first full day included 10 patients. Our 10th patient of the day was very unhappy about having to come here for treatment. She let her provider know how very upset she was, how uncomfortable, and how she felt that we were “unskilled” doing this new procedure, but that we were very kind and caring otherwise. Lisa jumped into the following week with excitement, eagerness, and a can-do attitude. She provided care to this upset patient in a most professional, caring, and nurturing way. She moved the patient to a more comfortable room. She provided warm blankets, snacks, drinks and was able to connect with the patient. She performed the procedure with skill, kindness, care, and confidence. Lisa bonded with this patient. She made her feel as though she were the only patient here that day. Lisa spent time with her, teaching her how the procedure is done and the reason why we do it slightly differently than she was used to. They discussed the best way for the patient to complete her treatment by adding a step. The patient agreed to the change and completed the treatment. When Lisa discharged this patient, I heard the patient tell her friend that this time was amazing and she wanted Lisa to always take care of her. Lisa demonstrated all the factors that make a DAISY Nurse! She was nurturing, understanding, respectful, skilled, professional, and supportive. This example demonstrates Lisa’s ability to turn a patient’s negative feelings about the procedure into a positive experience.

Lisa showed me what it means to be a great nurse. As a Peninsula College nursing student and future OMC employee, I felt incredibly lucky to learn from her. From day one, she welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like part of the team. She was kind, patient, and always took time to explain things in a way I could understand. I saw how she treated every patient with respect and compassion, really listening to their stories and including them and their families in care decisions. Lisa is highly skilled and professional, and she leads by example. The way she supported both her patients and me as a student left a lasting impact. I hope to bring the same warmth, respect, and dedication to my future role at OMC.
