Rachel went above & beyond to ensure my comfort and care, giving me choice, autonomy, and keeping me informed as much as possible throughout.
This was my first procedure that involved sedation in the US, and the last time I had a procedure, it was incredibly traumatic. I have autism, anxiety, and a history of trauma, and coming in for this procedure was very daunting. Rachel went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and care, giving me choice, autonomy, and keeping me informed as much as possible throughout.
When she saw I was becoming distressed by the excessive noise outside of the little area I was in, she quietly asked a passing nurse to have others be mindful of the noise for me (and this made a difference). She was also discreet in their handling of obtaining my weight (which was communicated to be a stressor for me ahead of time). She also consistently used the right pronouns for me - something I've accepted never happens when I have healthcare appointments.
Finally, my husband shared that when I was back in the area post-anesthesia, she came and checked in on me. Throughout, she was a great nurse to me as her patient, but I also saw her as a great team member to other nurses.
