She continued to care for me with a level of love and attentiveness that went far beyond her job.
I would like to nominate Morgan Wolfe for the DAISY Award for the extraordinary compassion, strength, and humanity she showed my husband and me during the most devastating and traumatic experience of our lives, the stillbirth of our daughter, and the medical emergency that followed. From the moment she walked into our room, Morgan created a space where we felt safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. When we were told that our daughter no longer had a heartbeat, our world collapsed. The grief was immediate and suffocating. As my husband and I tried to process the unthinkable, she became the steady presence we desperately needed. She didn't rush us; she didn't treat us like patients on a schedule-she treated us like two shattered parents whose entire lives had just changed. She spoke to us gently and never once let us feel alone.
During labor, she honored our daughter in a way that meant everything. She said her name, acknowledged her life, and held space for her with such tenderness. She made sure we understood what was happening and what to expect, while continuously reminding us that our emotions-our fear, heartbreak, and confusion-were valid and seen.
But the moment that will stay with me forever came after S was born. My delivery quickly turned into an emergency as I began hemorrhaging with a retained placenta. In the chaos, staff rushing in, and my own body spiraling, Morgan never once lost her calm. She immediately took control, reassuring both my husband and me even as the situation grew critical. I remember looking into her eyes while they prepared to rush me to the operating room, and she grounded me when I felt like I was slipping away. She told me I wasn't alone. She told me I was strong. She told me to keep breathing. And as I was wheeled away, terrified and unsure if I would survive, she reassured my husband, who was left grieving the stillbirth of our daughter and suddenly fearing he might lose his wife too. She checked on him, talked to him, and held space for his fear and heartbreak with the same compassion she showed me.
Afterwards, I was still bleeding, exhausted, and emotionally shattered. She continued to care for me with a level of love and attentiveness that went far beyond her job. She made sure we had time with S, helping us create memories we will hold onto forever. She handled our daughter with such dignity and gentleness that it felt like an act of love, not just care. She gave us the gift of feeling like parents-honored, seen, validated-even in the midst of tragedy.
There are no words strong enough to express what Morgan did for our family. She carried us through the darkest, most traumatic experience of our lives. She protected me physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She supported my husband when he didn't know how to stay standing. And she honored our daughter in a way that we will never forget.
Because of her, we felt held in a moment when we could have easily fallen apart completely. She is not just an exceptional nurse; she is a healer, a protector, and a remarkable human being whose compassion will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
Thank you, Morgan, for honoring our daughter's life and supporting my husband's and my heart when it broke. You are truly extraordinary.
