Even though my mom was in your care for only a few moments, you made a lasting impression.
My mom was recently diagnosed with colon cancer with metastasis to the liver and received a STAT referral for a liver biopsy. A referral was placed late in the day, and we were anxious to schedule it, but since we are self-pay, we wanted to confirm the price first. I contacted the scheduling department and pre-service for some financial help, but was given the run around, and they offered little to no help.

Nurse Renise saw the STAT referral and called after her shift to help get the appointment scheduled. Renise could have waited until the next day or Monday, but saw the order and decided to help a needy patient. On the day of the scheduled biopsy, Renise came in to introduce herself and had the most welcoming smile. My mom and I were both nervous, but Renise was kind, patient, and empathic to my mom's situation. She took the time to explain the entire process, post op care, and was patient with us every step of the way.

After meeting the physician who would be performing the biopsy, Renise began walking me to the lobby when I started to cry. Renise stopped me, helped me relax, and hugged me like a mother would hug a child. Renise noticed my mother in pain, and even though my mom never complains, Renise made it a point to advocate for her and reassure her that it's okay to ask for help when needed. Renise even saw my mom's oncologist in the hospital and stopped him to advocate for my mom's pain.

I work in a hospital myself, and finding someone who truly loves their work is rare. Renise is a nurse who deserves recognition not only for her work but also for her compassion. Nursing is not only about handing out medications and making rounds, but also about showing care and compassion for patients and families. They don't make nurses like Renise anymore, and I'm so grateful she was the nurse in charge of my mom's care. I cannot sing her praises enough, and I hope someone reads this to motivate all nurses to be more like Renise.

Even though my mom was in your care for only a few moments, you made a lasting impression. God truly blessed you with a caring heart. We are forever grateful for your help.
