From the moment she walked in, she demonstrated the utmost professionalism and a kind and caring demeanor with all the tools and equipment needed at the ready.
Ms. Sara has taken care of me on 2 separate occasions during my overnight stays at Bassett for a major operation that I received. From the moment she walked in, she demonstrated the utmost professionalism and a kind and caring demeanor with all the tools and equipment needed at the ready. I was going through this operation and recovery alone as I don't have any family that lives in my part of the country. During the first overnight stay, I was able to witness her teaching a new nurse everything from the medical basics to what questions to ask to better help his patient and make them more comfortable with his care. She had the most patience and was able to explain everything in a way that made sense, specifically to him, and I watched him progress under her supervision overnight.
The second time I had to stay was for 2 nights, almost 2 weeks later, and again I had Ms. Sara. I was very happy and relieved to see her assigned to me. She immediately recognized me, welcomed me back, and asked with genuine care how I've been and what she could help with. This meant a lot to me, as any time you have to go back to the hospital, it can be a very stressful and uncomfortable situation. I loved that she was able to give me my expectations for the night right up front with wake-ups and scheduled tests. She frequently checked on my well-being, not just physically but mentally. She shared humor and kindness with me every single time. With any question that I could pose (and I had a lot), she had an answer or got me one immediately following our conversation. She works smoothly and carefully, almost as if she's done the job for 20 years already! She is an incredibly knowledgeable and capable human being whom I trust completely. When dealing with a chronic condition, it is all too easy to become disheartened and distrustful of hospitals and nurses. However, I can honestly say this has been the best and most restful care I have received in my decade of battling illness. This is undoubtedly attributed to Ms. Sara's meticulous, considerate, and expedient care. Although no one wants to come back to the hospital, if I ever have to again, I do hope that the teaching of her fellow nurses spreads and her methods and intellect become the standard of care.
