I would like to nominate Mariya Barbalat (Vigdorov) for the DAISY Award for her outstanding compassion and advocacy during my hospital stay. On the fourth consecutive day of receiving the wrong meal, I was understandably upset and frustrated. Mariya not only listened to my concerns with empathy, but she also took immediate action. She advocated for me persistently, ensuring that my voice was heard. She didn’t stop until the kitchen supervisor personally came up to address the issue, and thanks to her efforts, the problem was finally resolved. Mariya’s dedication to patient care went far beyond her clinical duties. She made me feel seen, heard, and respected, and that made all the difference in my healing process. Her advocacy turned a negative experience into one where I felt truly cared for. She exemplifies what it means to be a nurse and a patient advocate. I am deeply grateful for her support.
