Shallan dedicates to making sure her patients receive the best care she can possibly provide.
Not only is Shallan a selfless, empathetic, and hard-working person, but she is also one of the most deserving nurses of this honor. Oftentimes, Shallan works as a charge nurse on our floor. She takes this leadership role extremely seriously and consistently goes above and beyond. Whether she is advocating for patients and their situations beyond hospital doors, advocating for her fellow staff nurses by closely monitoring the current acuity and staffing of the floor, or even lending a helping hand with something as simple as a medication pass for a busy co-worker.
Shallan also willingly takes patients of her own if the staffing is low, or if she notices a co-worker has had a rough shift and needs some assistance. Shallan consistently checks in with her fellow nurses, making sure everyone feels comfortable in their assignment, inquiring if there’s anything she can do to help, and ensuring her nurses have eaten and taken adequate breaks (even if it means sacrificing her own). On top of everything, Shallan meticulously studies the time plan, making sure all shifts, especially the night shift, have adequate staffing multiple days in advance.
She works extremely hard, utilizing all resources to make sure all shifts will be safe, and her co-workers will feel confident. When Shallan is not in charge, her presence is still heavily felt amongst the staff. She constantly lends a hand and puts her heart into every assignment she has. Throughout her 12-hour shifts, it is evident that all 12 hours Shallan dedicates to making sure her patients receive the best care she can possibly provide. She becomes heavily involved with her patients beyond a medical diagnosis, creating good relationships and ensuring a stable, long-term plan for health when she can.
Beyond nursing, Shallan is a friend - one you can always count on to be a listening ear when you need it. We want to thank Shallan for making Phillip’s House 21 a more positive place. She inspires us every day!
