We appreciated Evan and his care more than he knows.
My father arrived by ambulance at the ED after experiencing a fall with a head blow and began experiencing significant weakness in his arms and legs. Evan was his assigned nurse and took very good care of him. Evan spoke to my father with respect and patience, as my dad’s dementia makes him process things differently, especially when he is stressed and in pain. He is also hard of hearing, and his glasses were left at home.
I appreciated Evan’s intentionality in his interactions with my dad. He was thorough and extremely patient. He is obviously very skilled, and his interventions were well practiced, which kept everyone in the room, including me, feeling confident and calm. As my father's symptoms resolved, Evan kept advancing the visit, removing equipment, and helping my dad regain his autonomy and make decisions. It was heart-warming and appreciated that he spoke to my dad, not over him or at him or around him. He took time and care to place a great dressing over a large skin tear that was very protective of the area and functional. Evan smiled at my dad’s humor and looked for ways to connect with him. He did so many things for my dad in a way that was just a little nicer. We appreciated Evan and his care more than he knows.
