The nurse I am nominating is incredibly deserving of a DAISY Award. A few times a month, my grandpa has appointments for rapid treatment. My grandpa will schedule his rapid treatment appointments specifically for the days that Nancy works because of the compassionate care she has given him.

Every time my family and I call my grandpa or go to visit him, we hear a story about Nancy. Before we hear about his treatment, we hear about how great his nurse is. As difficult as it is being a cancer patient and going to appointment after appointment, Nancy makes his experience a little less difficult.

I have been able to go to a few of his rapid treatment appointments, and I have seen for myself what a great nurse and person she is. My grandpa's appointments always last longer than they should because he enjoys talking with her. Knowing this, Nancy sets aside a few extra minutes to have these meaningful conversations with my grandpa.

Her care and compassion have meant so much to our entire family, and we are grateful my grandpa is in such great hands. One time, I stopped by her unit to say hello, and she shared with me how much she cares for my grandpa and how she is rooting for him to get better. I will always remember that conversation.
