My husband was in the ICU after emergency open-heart surgery following an aortic dissection. Val was our night nurse for three nights. She brought such a capable, kind, and joyful spirit to our nights. She was patient and kind and always willing to troubleshoot. She treated my husband with dignity when he was at his most vulnerable. Val also took such good care of me. We were on vacation when my husband had this happen, so I was very alone. Val would make me smile, set up a space for me to sleep, and even bring me warm blankets. Val absolutely went above and beyond, which is incredible because her normal self is amazing. Val made the most terrible time more bearable, and I am so thankful for her.
