David exhibited exceptional compassion and empathy with a patient who was having a hard time understanding his care plan, particularly the fall bundle. The patient was a high fall risk and was noncompliant with the fall bundle during the night shift. He went to the patient's room and allowed me, as the primary nurse, to join him. He listened to the patient’s concerns and addressed each concern the patient had, and then educated the patient that Advocate Health makes patient safety a priority. Once the patient understood, he agreed to follow the plan of care. David developed a therapeutic relationship with this patient that enabled the patient to trust that his safety was a priority. As a result, the patient then trusted us to provide high-quality, exceptional care. On the same shift that day, there was a workplace violence incident. David de-escalated the patient safely while waiting for security and handled the situation with professionalism while also ensuring that other patients and staff were safe. He was calm and reassuring to the patient, which contributed to a positive outcome. David always assists whenever and wherever he can with colleagues, and I have lost count of the number of times he has assisted me so that I can provide the exceptional care our patients deserve. He is a credit to the nursing profession and an asset to me and many others on the 4th floor.
