It is a sincere honor to nominate Pam Makris, lovingly known as Pinky, for the DAISY Award. Having worked with Pam for over 27 years, I have come to know her not just as a colleague but as a mentor and friend who guided me through the challenges of being a new nurse in the Emergency Department with incredible kindness and patience.

Pam's dedication to her patients and her profession is extraordinary. She is always there for those who need an advocate, showing loyalty and protection. Early in my career, I looked up to this nurse for her extensive knowledge, confidence, and exceptional nursing skills. Her larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and unforgettable sayings brought joy and laughter to everyone around her.

Pam perfectly represents what it means to be a DAISY Award honoree and embodies the I CARE values of the VA. She goes the extra mile, whether it’s covering night shifts on short notice or coming in on her days off. She leads by example, always ready to care for the sickest and most challenging patients, never asking something she wouldn’t do herself.

Pam is the embodiment of an outstanding ER nurse, staying calm and competent in the most stressful situations. Her presence in the Emergency Department has been invaluable, and our team is incredibly lucky to have her.

Her commitment to the VA and our veterans is truly exceptional. I have the utmost trust and respect for her, and I would want her to take care of me any day. Her work ethic, reliability, and well-deserved reputation speak volumes.
